History of Rainbow Youth Center (Portable).

History of our Program.

My purpose of Rainbow Youth Center is to love and show our youth that they are our future.

That they can achieve their dreams. And to never give up. That I want to take time with them and encourage them.

As a child I went through some difficult times but I made it with Gods help. My family did not have a lot of money. Most of our clothes were donated to us or second hand from the thrift store. We didn’t get the experience of going to McDonalds restaurant as a child. We had no phone no a/c and food would be scarce in our home. My mother did not work most of the time ,she was a home worker. My father was the only one working with a total of six children to provide for. My mother had taken in her mother to take care of her for which we had to help out. For the holidays my mom would bake homemade cakes and pies. We had fruits and candy for our Christmas treats. Sometimes we made homemade candy. It was a lot of fun growing up in the country. With lots of animals such as cows , pigs and chickens, goats, and dogs. We had a garden as well.

One day there was lady by the name of Gerdine Daukins. That came from Chicago IL. Who came around the neighborhood and she put together a youth choir. My mother had us in a church up the street called State line C.O.G.IC . It was a life changing experience. Because she took personal time with us by taking us out to restaurants and cook outs at her house. We went traveling and she would speak life into us. Encourage us to follow our dreams. Her home was a safe place from our home. At the church where we attended. We were cared and loved by some very good people. Missionary Bernice & John Martin which were the parents of Gerdine Daukins.

When I graduated from high school in 1991.My art teacher encourage me to go to college for art .I would participate in art shows at school and in the Washington State Fair and local state art shows, back in Louisiana. My art work and picture was posted in the local newspaper for Franklinton papers. It was a honor for me and my parents was proud of me. I came to Houston to attend the Art Institute of Houston and graduated in 1993 to receive a two year in Visual Communications. For which art was my passion since high school.Unitil this day her sister Mrs. Mildred Strickland still have a love for the youth as well. I was informed that she sponsored a youth for summer camp for this year 2017.
